Part Six: What is a high-quality sport headset?

It’s much slight disparity on our preceding question, nevertheless it’s worth reading into it for a separate piece.

Whereas, inside the aforementioned post, we looked at what were the best headphones to buy for sports and exercise, now we are shining an exploratory light on what it can be that you’re truly looking for.

So, with this in mind, we’ve created with the top five criteria that you need to consider before getting your headsets for the gym, jogging or training of any type. Here goes:

1)         Staying Motionless: It’s quite hard to get a good workout whenever you consistently have to regulate your headphones. Headphones that shake or slide are a continuing supply of annoyance if you’re running or doing cardio training of any kind. ‘Headband’ style headsets and large cans are usually a very poor decision for strenuous activity, unless they are exclusively designed for it, and that means you’re far better off with ear buds or any other type of inner ear phones when you’re preparing on moving about.

2)         Unblemished Playback: There is nothing more frustrating than music that skips about like an 8-track tape player with Parkinson’s and some earphones simply can’t take the tempo. Cheaper headphones will not have shock absorbers inbuilt and, as such, will fracture quite easily, causing the music to skip or fade in and out. You’re top bet should be to obtain a pair with built-in shock absorbers.

3)         Noise Reduction: Noise cancellation headphones produce a bit of white noise round the speaker that drowns out most external sound. This really is great for running past road works, sirens and arguments or ignoring the bleak techno crap they play in the gymnasium in a vain attempt to ‘motivate’ one.

4)         Sturdy Design: These earphones are going to be bouncing around with you and they’re prone to live quite a tough life. In fact, speakers are actually very vulnerable gear and small tiny ones even more so. You need to be sure that whatever speakers you purchase are well looked after, a strong body and a tough outer casing are good, as is the thick rubber ‘gummy’ design that’s trendy with athletes.

5)         Sweat Proofing: When the Human body exerts itself, it sweats. It’s a usual function and its in fact quite essential for maintaining body temperature (even if it does not cause you to smell too appealing afterwards!). However, sweat, like some other liquid, can acutely damage some headsets. Look out for ‘sweat proof’ versions or those with a ‘sweat guarantee’ so that you can really get the most out of your headsets. Bear in mind also to wash them regularly with a dry cotton bud, just to get the best possible functioning from them.
